Invisible Labor in Relationships: What It Is and Why It Matters

Relationships are work, and that work doesn’t always look like doing the dishes. The idea of invisible labor talks about the work that is done in relationships that is often unseen. This works includes everything from holding mental lists, taking care of our partner’s emotions, or even remembering birthdays, and tends to disproportionately fall on women. These invisible tasks are crucial in building healthy relationships, and yet when not talked about, they can often build resentment and frustrations.

In a presentation with the Walnut Club Philadelphia, our owner and therapist Megan Matusky talks more about the realities of invisible labor in relationships and provides tools to navigate this work in healthier ways. Click the link below to watch the full presentation.
